COACH'S CODE
St.
Hilary's CYO regards a person who takes on the responsibility of
coaching as a special kind of person with special qualities. He
or she should have a sound knowledge of the particular sport, a
deep interest in the players and a genuine enthusiasm that can
be passed on to the players.
A
good coach is an educator, friend, disciplinarian and psychologist
to the players. In accepting this responsibility, a coach accepts
a responsibility to the team, to the players, to their parents,
to the CYO and to the sport.
Every
coach in St. Hilary's CYO program pledges to conduct him or herself
at all times in accordance with the mission statement of St.
Hilary's CYO and the rules and regulations of the Marin County
CYO.
The
rules applicable to the particular sport are to be regarded as
mutual agreements, the spirit of which should be respected and
unbroken. Referees' decisions should be accepted no matter how
unfair they may seem.
Each
player is to be provided the opportunity to develop their skills
through participation in instruction, practice and games. Winning
is desirable, but winning at any costs defeats the purpose of
the game and the CYO program.
The
CYO program reflects the Christian attitudes and values of good
sportsmanship. Good sportsmanship dignifies coaches, players,
the team and the game. Each coach is pledged to instill good
sportsmanship in his or her players.
